Towards Initiation

Lesson 4

To understand the context of this lesson correctly we need to remember what was said before about the nature of experience. We said that all experience takes place in the world of activity, and we are now going to discuss experiences in the “thought realm”.
One usually associates an experience with some condition had within the body – or what could be defined as having some kind of “feeling”. The world of thought is one devoid of such feeling, but one can have experiences in this realm which are just as concrete or seemingly real as experiences in the body area. In this particular area (the mental) some experiences can reach out into this outward field as though some unseen power was working upon or through it, whilst thought which bears no relation to Reality will produce no such effects. A person can build up an entire world of experiences based upon his own conceptions which bear no relation to the Cosmic Scheme, so the wise builder should be well orientated in things spiritual before he attempts such methods or he will find himself in an illusory state of isolation.
The concrete world of the mental region is sometimes called Theta or The Eighth, and reference to this can be found in the myths referring to a “City of the Eight”, or Eighty, because it is in the correct understanding of this that one can build his own world in a harmonious relationship to the same “Four Square City” of the Divine Realms.
By correct thought processes one quickens, as it were, the radiation activity rate from within his own centre thus influencing the tone quality of the whole body. A quickening process can also be observed in the world of experiences. This means that a subtle force becomes “superimposed” on every observable thing in the world of effects and one begins to leave the sensory world. By prolonged practice, or self-discipline, sometimes taking many centuries, the individual gradually withdraws from this sensory area and discovers that he has undergone a kind of metamorphosis. He becomes transformed from a “human being” into a being of another dimension of experience. This is the “quickening” and change spoken of in the Holy Scriptures.
This process is carried out with the right use of the time and space factor in regard to sensory experience. Thus, whilst there still remains an awareness of the existence of the time and space factor one becomes free from it. This involves a kind of contradiction because, while one experiences the “absence” of time and space, one observes or witnesses this factor taking place even though he is not affected by it. This experience could be described as a being from one world peeping in on another – being “in the world but not of it”.
The thought world can directly influence the sensory world of experiences and in what is generally understood to be the “normal” physical state. Directed thought under proper control does immediately affect the energies within the electro-magnetic octave in which humans normally operate. In this state, at a fairly advanced level, one begins to understand the possibility of creating an entire world of experience for oneself in which others can share and become aware. This is the world of concrete thought, and the ideas therein are realities. When others become drawn into your world of thought, it is described in human technology, as “coming under a specific Master”. This means that humans who graduate to this part of their own awareness can draw upon this experience of the “Master” for their own benefit, and this indicates how a Hierarchy is built up from this level. A similar process takes place from the apex downwards giving us a wonderful interplay of the exchange of knowledge from sphere to sphere like a “Jacob’s Ladder”.
One succeeds in this work by acquiring the ability to use one’s thought processes to “control” the effects. This means that one should be in a position to maintain the correct thought patterns until he reaches the point where effects no longer influence his thinking. In other words, he ceases to react to circumstances or his environment.
It might appear that this would leave one cold and indifferent, and perhaps that is why those who are untrained in the true methods have fought shy of this very important step, for, after all, this is only the beginning, and complete release from the false world and the cycle of reincarnation will not come until the last vestige of attraction to such conditions has been passed.
Here we have been speaking of “stages” for the purpose of explanation as to what goes on during the whole process, but we do admit that the growth from unreality to Reality can be as a lightning flash, or may take years. The next thing to be done to avoid the “coldness” mentioned is to be compassionate – or to understand that those who are chained to their illusions really need your presence even though they might react violently to any help given. To be compassionate does not mean being “sorry” or sentimental, for this is recognising the illusion too and stepping in “where angels fear to tread”. Life is an eternity and they have, in one sense, all the time in the world (in the time and space factor) but no time at all in the Reality. From our point of view, the sooner people are delivered from their illusions the better for all concerned, but this cannot be forced openly because it is gently being pushed from within. That is why human standards finally collapse causing the many a brief period of terrible consequences. Melchisedek, the Great Purifier of Lights, performs His task with terrifying precision.
Many people cannot understand why we do not give any exercises or rituals for them to perform but, in our experience, these could lead one to rely on these exercises believing that it is these which are helping them or bringing about the “awareness” they seek. After all, it is this kind of release from material support which we are trying to help them achieve. The main point at issue is to really understand the difference between the Real and Eternal and the unreal and transient and to live accordingly so that one ultimately learns to stand upon one’s own feet as a true Son of Light. Man’s true nature and qualities are as established fact. All that remains is that which needs to be worked out in the life of the individual, for if what we say is not true then it is useless to attempt anything, because if what is already an established fact has not yet been realised, then realisation, or awareness of one’s divinity, would be an impossible experience. If the realisation and experience, which must go hand in hand with Reality, was an impossibility, then millions have been hoodwinked by the Buddha and the Christ. So have those who subscribe to the opposite teachings.
How to bring the seemingly Abstract Reality into Concrete Experience
When you think Peace you are actually in tune with that which Peace stands for. To bring about the experience of Peace you should live and act as though Peace were a Reality. By your attitude, your approach to conditions, you are assured that all is well.
Do not try to work or “pull strings” with people or existing conditions or circumstances in the outside world. Everything should be approached from within yourself. Established within the Whole, you are Complete.
Be careful to watch over your thoughts and actions: seek out that alone which makes Peace possible in all your affairs.
Likewise, Harmony, Joy, Wholeness and Spiritual Power can be realised all together in Oneness if you abide by the teachings set forth in our lessons. These facets of the Reality are really the forms of the Reality as it becomes expressed in this concrete world of experience. The Reality Itself is that womb wherein all good is born for the benefit of all created life, and, therefore, all pairs of opposites appearing within Its structure work harmoniously together and not as the opposing forces operating in the world of humans which tend to divide.
Divine Love blends together all life forms irrespective of their apparent differences in manifestation. Therefore, work with that which brings all life together for the benefit of the whole. The very nature of the Reality is Love. Give It form and expression in your life, and you will be fulfilling the law at all levels.
