Joyful Living

Lesson 3

4

We will discuss around the theme that according to our motives and actions so will our experience of life be. If we radiate from within ourselves happiness and harmony then it is returned to us from all those we meet around us in a greater or lesser degree.

Nature’s laws include an action of giving and receiving. Every unit in nature has its place and every unit is dependent on the other. We are dependant on the farmer for our food, he depends on us for our services – whether they be tailor, banker or scientist. There is not one human that is not dependant on another for his sustenance. If we therefore try to cut ourselves off from others we isolate ourselves and become a static unit. Nature flows abundantly with all that it brings forth. It does not produce just one seed but thousands – some for the birds and some to grow. It does not produce one rabbit, but some for the foxes and some to keep the species in existence. It is no respecter of persons but provides for all. In this we learn that what we, ourselves, seek to possess should also be shared with all our brothers; but not in the sense as understood by certain shades of politicians. If we possess much we do no good by giving it away but we can provide a means whereby others might be brought in to share the joy we have in having possessions.
To solely possess for one’s own sake brings misery in its trail.

To force opinions on others also brings disharmony – for what proof have we that our opinions are more accurate in relation to truth than the other fellow’s? We can share ideas but always respect the other fellow’s point of view – even if it appears wrong – for after all – opinions are only judgements made in the world of effects therefore do not mean much anyway – even our own opinions thus it would be foolish to appear that you know more than another; for what is knowledge but a collection of facts. If a person takes your advice – or asks for facts it is a different matter – he might take your advice – but being pressed he will long to be out of your grip and you lose a friend.

To experience harmony you must express harmony. We can only see in a mirror that which is reflected back to us thus to maintain a balance in all your affairs the capacity within your mind must be pivoted with a balance on the outside affairs around you. That is – as you reach more and more into the hearts of men in your daily rounds so will the depths of your inner wisdom be increased. That is what we call a natural balance and is an important factor in nature. The joy we produce in the lives of others is automatically balanced from within into your own life. Just as the weighing of a man’s heart is depicted in the old Egyptian funerary papyri so will the joy in your heart be according to your love of truth. Balance occurs from within outwards and has nothing to do with that which appears in the world of effects.

The same laws are still in operation in our search for health if we have a sick body. Remember we are dealing with the laws of God (or nature) and not with the ideas and opinions of man. In this it is still a case of giving and receiving. We can only receive as in like manner we give – and this giving is of one’s personal self over to the God-centre. Also in this giving we must be prepared to “give up” all our old prides and prejudices, our hates and resentments and let the warm glow of love fill our hearts. This love is the greatest power in heaven and earth – it unlocks the fast doors that hold the dark forces within the hearts of men.

This love is not sympathy as generally understood. These dark forces are released to the light, where they are to be found but nought. Darkness, and that associated with it, is found to no substance when light is present. This light is the knowledge of truth.

In this age we have hundreds of conflicting theories as to the cause and cure of disease – just to give an example. This is so unreal because those who profess and call themselves “Christian”, or adherent of any other religion for that matter, accept the theories of so-called experts on matters of health when all the time the answers are given in their respective scriptures. At this point their arguments, in support of their individual faiths, come to naught and they fail to find the real power at their disposal. This attitude is illogical since they say they believe but their actions give them away. This state of affairs is worse than professing no religion at all for it earns the title of hypocrite. The basis of any system demands absolute honesty at all times. It is very easy to deceive ones-self but the laws of life will not be deceived. Also, it is easy to joke and laugh the matter off but sooner or later the results catch up on one and ill-luck or something else is blamed. Playing with life is playing with fire.
In spite of man’s search to find the answers to his health problems he finds nothing save that with which to check certain symptoms. A cure is another matter. Health as a condition
stems from living in tune with the true nature of life as it is thus preventing unpleasant forces
from marring one’s harmonious state.

Let us quote, as an example, a report from a daily newspaper: “Doctors have discovered that a new type of whooping cough germ has suddenly appeared which can beat the immunity given by jabs administered over the past twenty years,” further it stated “The germ has already caused the death of four three-month-old babies and caused eleven severe cases of whooping cough, it is revealed.” Further it stated that the vaccines already in use for whooping cough would have to be modified to meet the new danger. This is just one example, as stated, of many that are being reported in this present “scientific” age.
It seems that the world is quite a dangerous place to live in. What with one school crying out that commerce is poisoning our foods by adding dangerous chemicals – and the farmers are poisoning the vegetables with their sprays. The cattle rearers and chicken farmers are using chemicals to inoculate the beasts and the birds and now they are adding fluoride to our drinking water – a pretty dismal picture – where will it all end – dare we breathe?…….how
about the fumes from diesel engines?

Mankind lives in constant fear for himself and spends endless time in trying to overcome it. On one side the knowledgeable ones seem to be producing the things against which the others must fight. This is because he, man, identifies himself with the physical body. Since man is really made in the image and likeness of his creator he is a spiritual and not a material being and he only suffers that which he has produced for himself within the body. It is by the realisation of the real nature of man that he comes more wary of his own potentials and uses them more wisely.

The physical body is a solidified form of light-energy and is pliable to change according to the forces flowing out from the indwelling entity. Thus, when we live according to the existing laws of life, as they are, we reap accordingly. As long as man looks to the creation for his answers he finds trouble. For after all – an artist does not consult his painting for his answers, neither does a sculptor ask wisdom from his statue.

The established churches have failed to demonstrate the truths of the god they claim to follow – yet in their text-book, the Holy Bible, are numerous promises and examples of His Power in the lives of men. The ministers and priests of this world have proved poor object lessons to those groping in the dark. In the Gospel of St. John, chapter 8, verses 14 – 18, is a very interesting statement by Jesus
regarding judging after the flesh and judging after the spirit – earlier, in John chapter 3, verse12, he says “If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe if I tell you of heavenly things?” Throughout all His teachings it is made clear that the philosophies and teachings of this world have no part in his kingdom and cannot be understood from that point of view – yet the churches use worldly methods to prop up their claims and pander to the whims of adolescents to get them “roped in.” Jesus also taught that they who followed him (his example and teaching) would be able to do the things that he did – and possibly more (John chapter14, verse 12). Did he not say to his disciples “Follow me?” If he claimed that his Father was also our Father – why do we illogically worship him as the only Son of God? We childishly throw our every responsibility
on to him just like a child does with its mother. Even in the mystical meaning attributed to the
sonship of the Christ we still have to shoulder our own responsibilities. We possess, in truth,
all that he had and will ever have and we hope to prove this to you through these lessons. The
right medicine will not cure us by gazing up at it on the shelf – neither can we experience joy, peace and harmony by merely praying for it.

If you can grasp the fact that the Reality is seemingly an abstract state to the senses it may
help you to gain a right perspective. If we consider that the only real and permanent things in
life are the things that bind us together and that these things are the only real Life and Power –
and to adhere to the principles of these things – the results and proof will become evident in spite of what other theories would have you believe.

The following statement will be found to be useful to think on during difficult periods : “That which I really am is indestructible, permanent and true. I cannot in any way be affected by that which I experience through the senses – only to the degree that I identify myself with it. Because I am a spiritual being I am endowed with the same power and life as That perfect wholeness which brought me forth.”
